St Barbara is shedding its Nova Scotia gold mine, leaving a litany of environmental concerns

Australia’s St Barbara Ltd has announced that it is offloading its “non-core” assets – in Nova Scotia and Papua New Guinea – to a new junior company called Phoenician Metals. Phoenician will inherit a lot of unfinished business from St Barbara, including trying to get approvals for an expansion of the Touquoy open pit gold mine in Moose River and for another four-pit mine at nearby Fifteen Mile Stream.
