Morning File, Tuesday, November 5, 2019

November 5, 2019 By Erica Butler 11 Comments

November subscription drive It’s getting frosty out there, which means its the time of year when we at the Examiner take a stab at convincing you and yours (those who aren’t already subscribers) to support the continued existence and growth of the Halifax Examiner. From her first Morningfile back in May 2015, El Jones has […]

The Halifax Examiner subscription drive: what your support funds

Morning File, Friday, November Friggin' 1, 2019

November 1, 2019 By Tim Bousquet 2 Comments

November subscription drive It’s that time again: a month when we unceasingly plead for new subscriptions. To be fair, for most of the rest of the year we mostly leave you alone; aside from a few gentle reminders here and there, there are no popup windows or other annoying admonishes. We’re usually a soft sell. […]

Morning File, Friday, November 2, 2018

November 2, 2018 By Tim Bousquet 7 Comments

November subscription drive Today, I could write a long thing telling you about how important your subscription is, or you could read what I wrote yesterday and today I’ll just post a picture of a cute dog: Your dog can also wear a Halifax Examiner T-shirt, but only if your dog buys an annual subscription. […]

Bullshitter of the day: Jacques Dubé

Morning File, Thursday, November 1, 2018

November 1, 2018 By Tim Bousquet 8 Comments

November subscription drive It’s time for our annual November subscription drive, so all month I’ll be banging the subscription drum a bit more frequently and a bit louder. The Halifax Examiner is just over four years old. As owner, I run this business very conservatively. The Examiner is financially sound, there’s zero debt, all taxes […]

The most foul, cruel, and bad-tempered rodent you ever set eyes on: Morning File, Monday, November 20, 2017

November 20, 2017 By Tim Bousquet 10 Comments

Give us all your money! Or, you know, ten bucks a month. I’m no good at this “beg for subscriptions” thing, but I think I’m supposed to tell you that this is about the cost of a latte a week. Or about 33 cents a day — 32 cents on the long months; we’re really […]

The worst-managed subscription drive ever: Morning File, Wednesday, November 8, 2017

November 8, 2017 By Tim Bousquet 7 Comments

November subscription drive This is the worst-managed subscription drive ever: I forgot to even mention it yesterday. That’s partly because I’m a bit busier than normal this week as I’m reporting on a couple of issues that require a lot of time, but the results of that reporting probably won’t be seen for weeks or […]

Vexatious litigant Roger Callow storms Nova Scotia courts: Morning File, Friday, November 3, 2017

November 3, 2017 By Tim Bousquet 15 Comments

Annual subscription Drive I’ve always been a soft sell on the subscription front. Shilling for subscriptions annoys me more than it annoys you, probably. But this is how we pay for the Examiner. I’m committed to paying contributors and employees decently, and that requires a steady income from subscribers. My hope is that this year’s drive […]

Uncover: Dead Wrong

In 1995, Brenda Way was brutally murdered behind a Dartmouth apartment building. In 1999, Glen Assoun was found guilty of the murder. He served 17 years in prison, but steadfastly maintained his innocence. In 2019, Glen Assoun was fully exonerated.

Halifax Examiner founder and investigative journalist Tim Bousquet has followed the story of Glen Assoun's wrongful conviction for over five years. Now, Bousquet tells that story as host of Season 7 of the CBC podcast series Uncover: Dead Wrong.
