Brenda Way: a 28-year-old woman found murdered behind an apartment building on November 12, 1995. Brenda was a sex worker who lived in North Dartmouth, although she mostly worked the Halifax stroll.
Glen Assoun: Brenda’s former boyfriend was in 1999 convicted of murdering Brenda. He has always maintained his innocence. Glen was a drifter with convictions for assault; he typically carried a knife in his boot. He and Brenda had a violent and uncertain relationship. In the summer before Brenda was murdered, the couple lived in the Four Star Motel on Prince Albert Road in Dartmouth.
Margaret “Robin” Hartrick: Brenda’s best friend. Robin told police that she ran into Glen near the murder scene on the morning Brenda was killed.
Bob Renner: Brenda’s former pimp.
David “Shakey” O’Neill: When Brenda moved out from the Four Star she moved in with Shakey at 9 Lawrence Street, just behind and across the parking lot from the Four Star.
Cathy Valade: had a on-again/off-again casual sexual relationship with Glen in the months before Brenda was murdered.
Rachelle Valade: Cathy Valade’s daughter. In 1990, Cathy, then 17 years old, lived with Glen, then 35, in “a trailer behind the airport.”
Jamie MacNeil: Glen’s son.
Glen Junior Assoun: Glen’s son.
Corey Tuma: worked the front desk at the Four Star.
Randy or Russell Downey: was with Corey Tuma at the Four Star the night of Brenda’s murder.
Wayne Wise: said that over the phone from Vancouver, Glen had admitted to a murder.
Carla Jenkinson: Wayne Wise’s girlfriend.
Constables Tony Blencowe and Peter Gallant: took Robin’s statement in 1996.
Sergeant Dave MacDonald: the lead police investigator into the murder of Brenda Way.
Jane Downey: Brenda’s sister, who discovered a knife near the murder scene.
Tina Cameron: said she overheard a conversation at Cathy Valade’s apartment between Cathy and Glen, in which Glen admitted to killing Brenda.
Rachel MacQuarrie: a missing woman who lived on Victoria Road, just two blocks from where Brenda was murdered. One of the last people to see Rachel alive was Robin.
Constable Stephen Maxwell: a RCMP cop charged with investigating Rachel MacQuarrie’s disappearance. Maxwell collected a KGB interview from Robin.
Ann Morse: Glen’s alibi for the night of the murder. Glen had moved in with Ann a couple of weeks before, and the pair shared several apartments and hotel rooms together for the next few months.
“Roberta” (a pseudonym): said that Glen had sexually assaulted her in 1997.
David Carvery: a jailhouse snitch. David said Glen had confessed to murdering Brenda while the two were incarcerated at the Halifax Correctional Centre.
Christine McLean: a woman whose murdered body was found near Cherrybrook while Glen and David were in jail together.
Suzanne Hood: the judge in Glen’s murder trial.
Don Murray: Glen’s lawyer for the trial.
Ron Fetterly and Dan MacRury: the crown prosecutors in Glen’s murder trial.
