August 29, 2014 By Tim Bousquet

by Hilary Beaumont “Super scary stuff—heads up Haligonians,” one of my Facebook contacts typed last week as she shared a story about a drug that went missing from the QEII hospital. She wasn’t the only one to react fearfully to the story. On Twitter and Facebook people posted about the 16 vials of Midazolam, a...

Halifax rallies for Ferguson after Mike Brown shooting

August 20, 2014 By Tim Bousquet

Article by Hilary Beaumont They might have marched out of a history text. In a scene nearly indistinguishable from a 1960s civil rights protest, a multiracial crowd of nearly 300 people stalled traffic Tuesday evening as they walked down Spring Garden Road. The rally was a show of solidarity with protesters in Ferguson, Missouri where...

August 14, 2014 By Tim Bousquet

The city has issued the last building permit needed to construct the Nova Centre. A project as large and as complex as the Nova Centre must obtain a number of permits—in this case 13. Thiels: The province is helping Joe Ramia poach our tenants

August 12, 2014 By Tim Bousquet

By giving Joe Ramia’s Nova Centre project an exemption to the city’s planning laws, the province unfairly gave Ramia the ability to compete for tenants now housed in Thiel family properties, says a brief filed with the court. The Thiels own several properties in the financial district, including the BMO building, the TD Centre, and the Royal Bank Tower. Collectively,...

Review of investigation into Holly Bartlett’s death criticizes Halifax police actions

July 25, 2014 By Tim Bousquet

A review of the Halifax police investigation into the death of Holly Bartlett finds that “based on the evidence presented to the reviewers,” her death was accidental. The report, however, goes on to fault the police department’s investigation, noting that the investigating officers jumped to a conclusion early on, before collecting all the evidence, and then kept...

Uncover: Dead Wrong

In 1995, Brenda Way was brutally murdered behind a Dartmouth apartment building. In 1999, Glen Assoun was found guilty of the murder. He served 17 years in prison, but steadfastly maintained his innocence. In 2019, Glen Assoun was fully exonerated.

Halifax Examiner founder and investigative journalist Tim Bousquet has followed the story of Glen Assoun's wrongful conviction for over five years. Now, Bousquet tells that story as host of Season 7 of the CBC podcast series Uncover: Dead Wrong.
