About 200 people rallied outside Province House today in a last-ditch effort to derail the Financial Measures Act, which does away with the former screen film credit. Inside, the legislature was slated to pass the third and final reading of the Act; it will become law effective July 1.
Screen Nova Scotia organized the demonstration. Below, hear SNS Chair Mark Almon give some introductory remarks, followed by a reading of a letter by a series of actors. The letter was sent to MLAs in the hope that they would vote against the Act.

I was particularly glad to hear Screen Nova Scotia’s “co-vice chair” Scott Simpson, broaden the protest to include others affected by the Liberals’ austerity budget, including university students, community groups, and public employee unions. Hear Simpson below:
